Former Toei President Shigeru Okada passed away

Shigeru Okada, a former President and the Honorary President of the Toei film studios, died due to pneumonia on Monday, May 9 at 17: 55 hours in a hospital in Tokyo. He was 87. He is survived by his wife Akiko and her son Yusuke.

Okada was born in Hiroshima Prefecture, and graduated from the prestigious Tokyo Imperial University (later renamed the University of Tokyo) in 1947. Following graudation, he joined Toei Eiga, predecessor of the modern Studio Toei.

After not producing his first play, Nihon Senpatsu Gakusei Shuki: Kike Wadatsumi no Koe, he constantly ascending Toei in a number of positions: Chief of the studies of Kyoto, head of studies in Tokyo, Chief of the Division of películay finally President in 1971. He served as President of 22 years and as President for nine years more. He was also director of the Board of Toei Doga (later known as Toei Animation) for almost four decades, from 1972 until his death.

Eldest son of Okada Yusuke Okada is the current President of Toei.
