Arrietty, Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Studio Ghibli film based on the British novel by Mary Norton borrowers, will have different dub dyes in the United States and United Kingdom.
The English dub, due in theaters July 29, will feature Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones of Atonement) and Tom Holland (one of the child actors who had the lead role in the musical version of Billy Elliott). The cast also includes Mark Strong (Green Lantern/Sherlock Holmes), Olivia Colman (Peep Show), Phyllida Law (the time machine) and Geraldine McEwan (Marple).
The American voice, meanwhile, will feature Bridgit Mendler (Wizards of Waverly Place) as Arrietty and Amy Poehler (Saturday Night Live, parks and recreation). The rest of the American cast including Will Arnett (Arrested Development, running Wilde), David Henrie (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Carol Burnett (The Carol Burnett Show). The film opens in American theaters on February 17, 2012.
Typically for Ghibli movie, Arrietty is being distributed in the UK by optimum releasing. However, it's the first Ghibli movie to be released with different dub dyes in the United Kingdom and the United States. (Two projects of Ghibli: waves and yesterday, were released on DVD in United States but not United States, but both versions only English subtitles.)
Co-founder of Ghibli Hayao Miyazaki supervised and wrote the film, which updated the novel moving the history to a suburb of modern Tokyo. The story follows the "little people" who live in the floorboards of a normal human family.
