Starz Media father bidding in Barnes & Noble bookstores
Friday, May 20, 2011
The publishing industry Publishers Weekly news site reported on Friday that Liberty Media, the parent company of Manga Entertainment Starz Media owner, has offered an offer to purchase the Barnes & Noble bookstore chain. According to the report, the offer is worth about $ 1 million, and the Board of Directors of the chain is to assess the proposal. Barnes & Noble had it offered to buy 10 stores owned by his rival bookstore chain borders.
Meanwhile, borders has requested a further extension of 120 days to solidify their plans to reorganize in bankruptcy, presented in February. If you agree, the new deadline would be on October 14. The request comes after a meeting on Wednesday, in which the chain attempted to negotiate terms with publishers products from its stores. Public were not made the results of this meeting.
Borders bankruptcy filing came after a series of difficulties in the chain, including the departure of two of its executives and the delay of payments to publishers, followed by additional layoffs and an attempt to convince the editors to deal with their debts as loansfailed. As noted by the ICv2 News of sale retail source, borders played a crucial role in the increase in sales of manga in the United States in the first half of the last decade. Former CEO of Tokyopop Stu Levy had quoted bankruptcy of borders as part of the reasons for the dismissals in the Publisher shortly before the announcement of closure.
